4 Organization Products I Use in Every Utah Garage
Gathering up my favorite essentials to create functional garage storage systems that are easy to maintain!

Over the last month (and as we head into winter!) I've organized multiple garages in Utah County, and a few products have made repeat appearances in pretty much every garage we’ve done!
Here's the thing, you don't need to spend $$$ on 47 different organizing products to get your garage together. You just need a few reliable staples, a plan for your space, and somewhere for your stuff to go.
These are the garage organization products I reach for again and again at Kinn Home, and why I think they're worth having on hand.
1. Heavy Duty Storage Bins
If you've ever been to Costco or Home Depot, you probably know exactly which bins I'm talking about. The black ones with the yellow lids?
These are my go-to for garage storage because they're durable, stackable, and great for containing all the things that need a home but don't need to be out every day. Think holiday decorations, camping gear, seasonal accessories, etc.
I also like using the same style of bin throughout a garage when possible. It makes the shelves easier to arrange and gives everything a consistent home.
My tip: Measure your shelving before buying a bunch of bins!

2. A Label Maker
I will never stop talking about labels! Labeling bins is truly the only way you can find items later, and they make it easier for your brain to put things away.
I use the Brother P-touch label maker to label storage bins so it's easy to see what's inside without opening every single lid. It's especially helpful for seasonal items and things you don't access very often.
The goal is to make putting things away just as easy as finding them!
My tip: Keep labels specific and easy to understand. "Camping" is more useful than "Outdoor Stuff." "Christmas Lights" is more useful than "Holiday."

3. Good, Heavy-Duty Shelving
Shelving is one of the biggest game changers in a garage because it gets items off the floor and creates designated zones.
I look for sturdy shelving that can handle the weight of the items being stored but the exact shelving setup depends on the garage, the available wall space, and the size of the storage bins.
You definitely don't need custom cabinetry or an expensive built-in system. A well-planned set of shelves can do a lot of heavy lifting.
My tip: Plan your shelves around the bins and belongings you actually have. And keep heavier items on lower shelves.
4. Wall Hooks
Bikes, brooms, and skis take up a surprising amount of floor space, especially when you have them all sharing a garage with sports equipment, tools, and seasonal storage.
Wall hooks are a simple way to get equipment off the ground and free up valuable space! And they're particularly helpful when you're trying to make room for cars while keeping items accessible for everyday use.

Before You Buy Anything, Do This First!
My biggest recommendation for any garage organization project is to sort and declutter before you shop.
Start by grouping similar items together, deciding what you're keeping, and figuring out how much storage space you actually need. Then measure your shelves and choose products that fit your space.
Buying bins before you've sorted your belongings can mean spending money on containers you don't need or discovering that the sizes don't work for your shelves.
Need Help Organizing Your Garage in Utah County?
I've worked on multiple garage organization projects in Utah County over the past month, and every garage has its own challenges! Some need better storage zones, some need a serious decluttering session, and some just need a system that makes sense for the people using the space.
At Kinn Home, I help homeowners create practical, judgment-free organizing systems that work in real life. If your garage is ready for a reset, book a free consultation to talk about your project!
